The secret to a good pumpkin pie also has to do with the spiced that we add to the recipe. The spices work with the taste and smell of the pumpkin to remind us of fall.

People who really want a festive experience, may serve their pumpkin bread with apple cider. What could say fall more than pumpkin bread and apple cider? This works really well with that fall open-house, neighborhood get together or even pumpkin carving.

What kind of pumpkin should you use for this recipe?
You want the canned puree. The canned pumpkin pie pumpkin will not work for this. Carving pumpkin will not work either. What I like to do is stock up on the canned pumpkin puree when it first shows up at the stores. That way I know I will have plenty to get me through the holiday season.

Don't have all of the spices listed in the recipe?
Use what you have or what you want. I know folks who will use a 'pumpkin pie spice' to make up for not having the less common spices. It really is the cinnamon and nutmeg that make this. The others just make the bread even better.

This recipe will make 2-3 loaves of bread, depending on the size of your loaf pans. For example, 7X3" may need three pans while 9X5" may need two pans.

Ingredients
  • 3 1/2 Cups Flour- AP
  • 3 cups Sugar or alternative
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cloves
  • 1 15-16 ounce can Pumpkin Puree
  • 2/3 cup Water
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1/2 cup chopped Walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 and prep your pan(s) for nonstickIn a large bowl, whisk together your dry ingredients- flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and spices.In another bowl, mix together your pumpkin, water, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.Slowly add your mixed wet ingredients to your dry ingredients, about 1/4-1/3 at a time, stirring as you go.Use spatula to fold in your walnuts to the mix.Bake for 40-50 minutes- depending on the size of your pan- or until done. Allow to cool before serving.
