Make the Perfect Greek Salad

When I think of a Greek Salad, I think of some Feta cheese, vinaigrette dressing, and some delicious olives.

The beauty of these tasty salad is it's link to Greece itself.
The cheese, the olives, and the other elements that are so 'Greek'. I love ordering a Greek salad when I dine in a Greek Restaurant.

Make the Perfect Greek Salad

I think if you were to ask 10 people how to make a Greek salad, you may get up to 15 different answers. Am I right?

What seems to stay consistent in most Greek Salads are certain ingredients that you see over and over again.

Omitting any of these ingredients and still calling your salad a "Greek salad" my turn a few heads or get a few people asking questions.

What seems to be consistent in Greek Salads may be these ingredients:

  • Olives- specifically a Kalamata Olive
  • Red Onions
  • Feta Cheese
To those staples, we may add:

  • A sliced or small tomato
  • Cucumbers- often seedless
  • Anchovies
  • Diced Red Pepper
  • Parsley and/or Oregano
  • Bell Pepper
  • An additional black or other olive

What really makes the Greek Salad is the dressing that goes on top of it.For example-
  • Olive Oil (extra virgin )- sprinkled over
  • Red Wine Vinegar - sprinkled over
  • A dressing made of Olive Oil (1/2 cup), Red Wine Vinegar   (1/4 cup)  , and seasonings such as minced garlic (2 cloves), Dijon mustard (1/2 tsp) ,oregano (to taste), and salt and pepper (to taste).

Lastly, what do you serve your Greek Salad with?
I like to serve my Greek salad over a bed of romaine lettuce.
If my Greek Salad is the meal itself, there may be some kind of bread on the side.

How do you enjoy your Greek Salad?

  • Yum

  3. I haven't ever made a Greek salad, but this is so mouth watering, I'm not going to rest content until I make one. I would like to have it with homemade flatbreads I make and roll the dough onto seeds. So good, and perfect for a salad like this.
