Classic Gingerbread Cookies

Basic Gingerbread Recipe
The basic recipe used for making Gingerbread cookied
  • 3 cups Flour-AP
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 cup packed Brown Sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp Ground Ginger
  • 2 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Ground Cloves
  • 3/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 stick softened Butter
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 cup Molasses
Sift together your flour, baking powder and baking soda in a bowl and then set the bowl aside.In a large mixing bowl, combine together your sugar and butter.Add your ginger, cloves, cinnamon.and salt to the large mixing bowl, gently mix and then add your eggs one at a time stirring between.Blend in your molasses, and then add your flour mixture.Once blended together, divide your dough in half, cover in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 1/2 hours.When ready to use,preheat your oven to 350, prep your baking sheets for nonstick, and then roll out one dough half on a lightly floured surface no wider than 1/8" thick.Cut out your cookies if using cookie cutters other wise, flatten out 1-2" balls on your sheet.Bake for 18-20 minutes. Allow to cool on a rack before decorating.
